Cordell Hull Parking Garage
The State of Tennessee Parking Garage, specifically designed to accommodate state legislators, is strategically located to maximize accessibility and efficiency. Situated adjacent to several key state facilities—including the renovated Cordell Hull State Office Building, the Tennessee State Capitol, and a newly constructed underground access tunnel.
TRC provided comprehensive structural concrete services for this 101,000-square-foot, three-level parking facility. Constructed using post-tensioned concrete, the garage incorporates advanced structural techniques to ensure durability and functionality. A standout feature of the design is its green roof podium deck, which not only enhances the structure’s environmental sustainability but also integrates seamlessly with the surrounding urban landscape.
As part of the project, TRC participated in a design-assist effort and led the redesign of the cast-in-place shear walls. This redesign introduced corbels at the floor levels, enabling the structure to be constructed in two vertical sections rather than completing entire horizontal floor plates at once. This innovative approach expedited the project timeline, allowing the parking garage to be completed two months ahead of schedule.
